German physicists substantiate the possibility of tunnels in space-time
Wormholes, wormholes or tunnels in space-time for instant transition from one point of the universe to another are an indispensable attribute of space fiction. New research by German physicists claims such tunnels could indeed exist. Moreover, in their work, they were able to theoretically substantiate the existence of wormholes and came close to a possible understanding of this phenomenon.

The study was carried out by an international group of physicists led by Dr. Jose Luis Blázquez-Salcedo from the University of Oldenburg and published in the scientific journal Physical Review Letters. In their work, physicists presented a new theoretical model of the formation and existence of wormholes, which makes microscopic wormholes more substantiated than in previous theories.
Wormholes, like black holes, appeared in the equations of general relativity by Albert Einstein, published in 1916. An important postulate of Einstein’s theory was that the Universe has four dimensions — three spatial dimensions and time as the fourth dimension. Together they form what is known as spacetime, and that spacetime can be stretched and curved by massive objects like stars. And since curvature is possible, then such a configuration of the continuum cannot be ruled out when two extremely distant points in space can approach each other to a close distance.
«From a mathematical point of view, such a shortcut would be possible, but no one has ever observed a real wormhole,» explain the physicists. Previous models suggest that the only way to keep a wormhole open and pass through is to use an exotic form of matter that has negative mass, or in other words, weighs less than zero, and which only exists in theory. But the new work demonstrates in its model that wormholes can also be overcome without such materials.
The researchers chose a relatively simple «semiclassical» approach. They combined elements of the theory of relativity with elements of quantum theory and the classical theory of electrodynamics. In their model for traveling through wormholes, they considered certain elementary particles, in particular electrons. As a mathematical description, the Dirac equation was chosen with the inclusion of the Dirac Field into the model. The combination of quantum theory and the theory of relativity allowed the condition that matter in the form of charged electrons can overcome wormholes without consequences. This is not about spaceships, but electromagnetic radiation, which means communication, may turn out to be a reality for instant transmission of data from one corner of the Universe to another.
