The most distant object in the solar system has been registered. A year on it lasts a thousand earth years
In the electronic brochure of the Center for Minor Planets, a record appeared about the new and most distant of the discovered cosmic bodies in the solar system. This is a minor planet 20221 AG37, which previously received the nickname «FarFarOut» (further distant). For the first time this cosmic body was discovered in 20221, but only now planetary scientists were able to trace it through telescopes and register it as an inhabitant of our star system.

The small planet «FarFarOut» has an elongated orbit, approaching the Sun at a distance of 25 astronomical units (one a.e. Is the average distance from the Earth to the Sun, or 150 million km) and leaving 175 a.e. Such a trajectory leads to the fact that one year on «FarFarOut» corresponds to approximately 1000 Earth years.
20221 AG37 is small. Judging by the brightness of the reflected sunlight, the diameter of this cosmic body is about 400 km (for comparison, the diameter of the moon is 3474 km). While scientists assume that this is the world of ice and stone, but observations of it are still coming.
FarFarOut was first detected by the Subaru telescope in Hawaii, and observations that confirmed the object’s status as belonging to our system were obtained with the Gemini North and Magellanic telescopes. Unfortunately for planetary scientists, «FarFarOut» crosses the orbit of Neptune and has a strong gravitational influence from this planet. Meanwhile, observing objects on the outskirts of the solar system are essential. About five years ago, indirect evidence was revealed that our system has a massive ninth planet, which has not yet been seen through telescopes. The influence of this «planet X» on dwarf bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune may help to identify the culprit, but there is still not enough data for this.
