The rise in car electronics, booming sales of TVs and personal computers, the launch of new game consoles, and the mobile industry’s transition to devices supporting the 5G wireless standard have all caused a sharp jump in demand for semiconductors and exacerbated their shortage.
Even the mighty Apple, with a capitalization of $ 2 trillion and the world’s largest buyer of semiconductor products, spending $ 58 billion on them annually, was forced to postpone the launch of a new series of iPhone 12 smartphones by two months last year due to a shortage of chips.
